ROCKABY MACHINE

Rockaby Machine (2021) | Performance

Rockaby Machine was an ensemble performance reimagining Samuel Becket’s play Rockaby, in collaboration with Florence Bayes, Holly John and Kaitlyn Fiery. We experimented with live cameras and a vision mixer to present both a live and mediated performance simultaneously and allowing us to switch between multiple live cameras, using a projection of Penelope Wilton playing the Old Woman, in a TV short of Beckett's Rockaby from 2000 as a backdrop, which we reacted to in the live.

Mimicking and adapting motifs within the play, we placed microphones beside chair legs and looped the sound of the chair legs clanging against the floor to create a concurrent sound of ‘the rocking chair’ concept throughout the piece.
