SILENCE CONVERTER
Silence Converter (2023) | Live Performance, Moving Image
Silence Converter was a digital performance exploring the relationship between live music and moving images.
Responding to themes of environmentalism and activism, we created a socially engaged protest song, composing an original piece of music using a snare drum and electric guitar, alongside a synthesiser and spoken word. Using the projection mapping software Isadora, we generated a grid of nine images as a visual backdrop for our performance. Each image was extracted from archive footage of protests across different decades including the LGBTQ movement, anti-war protests in Vietnam and Just Stop Oil, to name a few examples. Using our live music in combination with Isadora, we generated varying visual effects within the moving images, such as distortion, colour changes and slow motion, all based on the volume of our music, enabling the images to become reactive to the sound.
