SPLINTERED IN THE TRACE (INSTALLATION)
Splintered in the Trace (2025) | Audio Visual Installation
Splintered in the Trace (Installation) was an audio-visual experience which used objects, soundscapes, still and moving images to invite the audience to explore and interact with the tactile surreal world within my film of the same name. The work explored memory and human connection through multi-media and poetic means, examining the temporality of the chance encounter and investigating unforeseen opportunities which occur or pass us by.
Using projection mapping on three walls, I enabled the audience to walk into a surrounding London skyline - made up of scans of buildings I had created from white pen on black card. These static images were part of three separate films which mixed collages with moving images; intermittently switching from the metropolitan skyline to what lies before it, or perhaps beyond it, tapping into our memories, and psyches of places and journeys that remain with us.
Alongside the images, I created a 15 minute soundscape, featuring instrumental electric guitar and synthesiser sounds composed with my collaborator Elian. The soundscape also included several poems I had written, voiced by Elian (who portrayed a Spaceman character, which was depicted in the films). The melding of spacey, otherworldly aural effects complimented the visuals to give the work immersive and evocative undertones.
The installation was in part a reframed experience of my short film, by the same name, enabling a closer contact and more immediate connection with the visuals, sounds and objects which had been explored differently in the film.
